Colonial Filings

If you are required to file documents with the SEC, you will need to do so through the SEC’s EDGAR system. To submit your forms, you must also have your SEC EDGAR filing codes. These are codes that you use to submit forms by your EDGAR filing agent and access specific online tools and websites through the EDGAR system. You must make sure you have the right codes, and you need to manage your paperwork properly. Here is a list of the Edgar filing codes:

Central Index Key: CIK

The first code is called the Central Index Key, or CIK. This is a unique, publicly available ID that is assigned to you as soon as you submit your Form ID application. It is a unique identifier that is included in the SEC submission files that you submit to the SEC. Through the CIK, the SEC can identify EDGAR filings that have been submitted by companies with similar names. Even though it is unlikely that there is another company that has your exact name, there are plenty of similarities, and the SEC needs to keep track of thousands of companies.

CIK Confirmation Code: CCC

This is a code that you will use in combination with your CIK when you submit paperwork through EDGAR. The CCC is eight characters. It is case sensitive, has at least one number, and has at least one special character. This code is required to submit a filing to the SEC. It should be kept confidential and stored like a password as it contains the key to filing to the SEC

Password

This is a confidential code that ensures the filer can access your SEC online account. You will enter this code in combination with your CIK to log in to specific websites. This code is eight characters. It is case sensitive, has at least one number, and has at least one special character. It is meant to be a private code, so you cannot share this with anyone unless they require it to do their job.

Password Modification Access Code: PMAC

If you need to make a change to your password, you need to have the password modification access code, also known as the PMAC. Similar to the password, the code is eight characters, is case sensitive, has at least one number, and has at least one special character. Again, this is a code that should be kept confidential.

Verisign Passcode

Verisign is EDGAR’s certification authority. If you need to configure or request a Verifisign passcode from Verisign, you need your Verisign Passcode. Your Verisign Passcode is used to verify your identity when submitting a Form ID, you need to have the Verisign Passcode. It allows you to configure a certificate through Verisign. A certificate is an electronic pass card that allows you to verify your identity when you file specific documents with EDGAR. It should contain a copy of the SEC certificate, the digital signature from Verisign, your name, your serial number, and any relevant expiration dates.
